apes and pigs

Say, "Shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that as penalty from Allah ? [It is that of] those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs and slaves of Taghut. Those are worse in position and further astray from the sound way." Quran 7:166, 2:65, and 5:60. Promoting Understanding of Religious Suffering

above creeds

"Atheism rises above creeds and puts Humanity upon one plane. There can be no 'chosen people' in the Atheist philosophy. There are no bended knees in Atheism; No supplications, no prayers; No sacrificial redemptions; No 'divine' revelations; No washing in the blood of the lamb; No crusades, no massacres, no holy wars; No heaven, no hell, no purgatory; No silly rewards and no vindictive punishments; No christs, and no saviors; No devils, no ghosts and no gods." —Joseph Lewis, "Atheist Rises Above Creeds," part of an address on atheism delivered at a symposium at Community Church, New York City, April 20, 1930. create a world

"I don't have any faith, but I have a lot of hope, and I have a lot of dreams of what we could do with our intelligence if we had the will and the leadership and the understanding of how we could take all of our intelligence and our resources and create a world for our kids that is hopeful." supernatural force

“If someone could actually prove scientifically that there is such a thing as a supernatural force, it would be one of the greatest discoveries in the history of science. So the notion that somehow scientists are resisting it is ludicrous.” —E.O. Wilson to Esquire magazine, Jan. 5, 2009  Promoting Understanding of Religious Suffering

Sixteen Missing Verses

The Sixteen Missing Verses  existed in King James Version, but not later versions. (1) Matthew 17:21 KJV: Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. (2) Matthew 18:11 KJV: For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. (3) Matthew 23:14 KJV: Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. (4) Mark 7:16 KJV: If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. (5 & 6) Mark 9:44 & 9:46 KJV: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. .. (Both verses identical to each other, and to 9:48, which is still in the main text) (7) Mark 11:26 KJV: But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. (8) Mark 15:28 KJV: And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, "And he was numbered with the transgressors." (9) Luke 17:36 KJV: Two men shall be in the fie

refuse to salute

"We are lucky enough to be living in a country that not only guarantees the freedom to practice religion as we see fit, but also freedom FROM religious zealots who would persecute and prosecute and even physically harm those of us who do not believe as they do. . . . If you refuse to salute the flag and say God in your pledge, you're actually judged un-American. But that's not the way America is supposed to be. That's the way Iran is. . . . Predicating patriotism on a citizen's belief in God is as anti-American as judging him on the color of his skin. It is wrong. It is useless. It is unconstitutional."  —Harvey Fierstein in the segment "Outtakes," from the program "In the Life," broadcast by Generation Q, Nov. 2004 Promoting Understanding of Religious Suffering

paul rejects christianity

Paul understood Christianity’s claims but wasn’t convinced, though he heard Stephen’s speech just before Stephen’s was killed and was unmoved by Stephen’s reference to Jesus. Paul also had the opportunity to discuss Christianity with the Christians he arrested. On a trip to Damascus to arrest Christians, Paul become a Christian. Paul was unconvinced by the arguments of Christians and needed an in-person visit from Jesus. If Paul was only satisfied by a personal vision from Jesus, why should we be satisfied with less?  Promoting Understanding of Religious Suffering

confidence trick

“People who believe in a divine creator, trying to live their lives in obedience to his supposed wishes and in expectation of a supposed eternal reward, are victims of the greatest confidence trick of all time.” Barbara Smoker, "So You Believe in God!" 1974 pamphlet.  Promoting Understanding of Religious Suffering

ready to shear

“But whenever a chief of State speaks of God, be he William I., the Knouto-Germanic emperor, or Grant, the president of the great republic, be sure that he is getting ready to shear once more his people-flock.” God and the State Mikhail Aleksandrovich Bakunin Promoting Understanding of Religious Suffering
